Traffic and Competition

Traffic
Traffic can mean different things depending who you talk to and what tool you are using. When we talk about traffic we are referring to the number of visitors you would receive if you were ranked either #1 or #2 in Google. The number is a guide and is usually understating the actual traffic you would receive when ranked.
Competition
When we talk about competition we are referring to the number of results that Google returns when searching on the exact match of a keyword phrase. An exact match is when a search engine returns results based on all the words in your phrase which appear next to each other. To test what results would return in Google you would surround your phrase with quotation marks, eg. "how to play monopoly". A broad match is when any of the words in your search phrase appear in an article or website. This would be the equivalent as searching without quotation marks.
